The Government of India announced that Air India would be combined with Indian Airlines in 2007. Air India is the India's best flying Ambassador. Air India Limited is the national airline of India. Air India is flying a global network of passenger and cargo services. Air India is the 16th biggest airline in Asia, serving 25 destinations worldwide. Air India also serves over 100 cities.

J. R. D. Tata is the founder of Air India in 1932 as Tata Airlines, a division of Tata Sons Ltd. Air India operates an all wide-body fleet collected of Airbus A310, Airbus A330, Boeing 747 and Boeing 777 aircraft.

The headquarter of Air India will be continued in Mumbai. As part of the merger process, National Aviation Company of India Limited (NACIL) was recognized, into which both Air India (along with Air India Express) and Indian Airlines (along with Alliance Air) will be merged. After merging, the airline continued to be called as Air India.

Air India has agreement codeshare with 13 other international airlines. Air India is projected to join Star Alliance, the world's leading airline alliance in 2010. Boeing 747-400 aircraft is used for abroad.
